The Pointless Stereotyping of the Boston Bombing

The news of the Boston bombings and the capture of the two American citizens of Chechen background has been a tragedy as well as a powerful symbol of what we all really think. After checking out the digital witch hunt that was unfolding on Reddit.com I found that there was a live Boston emergency services broadcast available online. Strangely, after checking it out after the murder of an MIT Police Officer the radio chatter turned to a car jacking at a 711 with the suspects described as ‘middle eastern’.

Now that the entire tragedy has played out with one brother dead and one in hospital I wondered why these two Chechen brothers would be described as “middle eastern’, not from the police officers but from the witnesses. Was it their looks? Probably not. Accent? They probably had a foreign accent but it would have sounded more Russian than middle eastern. Or was it the guns, explosives and apparent confession to the carjacking victim that they were responsible for the Boston marathon bombings?

Starting the Novel Writing Journey

Cassie zombie-girl

In a previous post I mentioned I was starting a new novel to have a bit of a break from poetry and it has been going really well. I have started with a bit of planning which as involved settings and thinking a bit about the characters and their situations.

I am trying now for some organic style writing so that it doesn’t become over planned. In the end I would prefer to know my characters well and then ‘drop’ them into certain situations. This of course requires a bit of empathy and some forethought as to what will happen to them at a later date.

Photos from a New Zealand Holiday

Well, I am back from my honeymoon in new Zealand and I have to say, despite some rainy days, the South Island is an amazingly breathtaking place. We spent some time up in Lake Wanaka as well as in Queenstown while also driving around the mountain roads enjoying the married life!

Here are a couple of photos from the trip and I would love to go back there again as there is so much to see and do in that part of New Zealand.

Now that I am back in Australia I hope to start writing and working on the site again, as well as with KJ Takes a Blog with my regular blogging advice column.

Starting Some New Works – Blogging Break

Working Title

What’s cooking? (Photo credit: sWrightOsment)

Strange that I would take a break from writing to do some moreĀ  writing but I don’t get to ‘speak’ to everyone on Twitter and Facebook as often as i should like. But I do have some great news as I am starting on a new novel which should be a lot of fun to write. Because I am writing so much these days I should be over to knock it over pretty quickly, or maybe not.

OK, so to bring some hype for it straight away it will be called:

Run for the Hills (Working Title)

Check Out Some of my ‘Classic’ Poetry

WASHINGTON, DC - FEBRUARY 13: Poet and author...

Obama would endorse my poetry if he had read it.

I have been writing poetry for some time now and have built up more poetry online than I originally thought. I only really discovered this since I have been moving everything onto this new, sexy, website. So I wanted to share a few that may been missed in the move before I start to set up one of my first original series Scents Sand Censor Billy Tea which was in old fashioned book form.

Getting Everything Off the Ground

Start-1 Rocket Launch

Start-1 Rocket Launch (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

At the moment I have been working really hard with my business to get it all up and off the ground and I am happy to have little refuges like this among my network of sites. I do a lot of article writing and other copy writing work for my bread and butter these days as well as general photography, but it is so nice to have these places that are truly your own.

This website has grown from something made out of old school HTML only to what it is now, with two blogs and a network of sites as well as an up and coming partner site that is in development called Art Auctions. If you are a busy person like me and run your own business I find that some times you keep pushing yourself and don’t take time to enjoy the things you have built.

What’s Next for kjwriteleft.com?

With kjwriteleft.com now entering into a more mature age for a website I have decide to take a quick look at what is in store for the site. If you are a regular to the site you will know that I try and change things around often and try and have new content.

Mostly, this has been poetry as well as photography with some of it in a series format. However, the biggest plan for the site is to link it in with a new website for buying art.

Have a Relaxing Visit to Refuge Island

A Refuge islands in Docker Street in Wagga Wagga.

Image via Wikipedia

I have been working quietly on my side project Refuge Island as I have been upgrading this site and it is going really well.

Just wanted to make a mention of it here as I am slowly spreading my writing out into more specific blogs that I run.

Refuge Island is a semi-political opinion writing site that I hope to eventually have other writers involved with.

The idea is quite simple and involves writing posts with the following topics:

  • Where Are You Now?
  • Where Have You Been?
  • and Where Are You Going?

If you want to check out the site then head to Refuge Island today for a welcome online holiday!
