Update for ‘Head for the Hills’ Novel

As I have mentioned in previous posts I have been working on a new novel that is slowly starting to take shape. It is, for me at least, a very different prospect than writing a poetry series. Not because of the length mind you, but because of the fun you can have with character development, settings and the overall course of the storyline.

I have been nutting out the characters at the moment in what I want to be a ‘natural selection’ process. I don’t want to fall into the trap of introducing lots of characters only having to kill them off later or have them drop off the map so to speak. Instead I am writing a few character based chapters introducing the different aspects of the story and I know that the strongest characters will win out.

‘Scents’ Poetry Series Moving Here Soon

Hey everyone, my time has been limited lately which means I have been working a lot. However, I will be getting to something that has slipped my mind for some time and that is to transfer the Scents Sand Censor Billy Tea series of poems onto this site. If you have been visiting the site for a while you would know there is another older site buried underneath this one.

Starting the Novel Writing Journey

In a previous post I mentioned I was starting a new novel to have a bit of a break from poetry and it has been going really well. I have started with a bit of planning which as involved settings and thinking a bit about the characters and their situations.

I am trying now for some organic style writing so that it doesn’t become over planned. In the end I would prefer to know my characters well and then ‘drop’ them into certain situations. This of course requires a bit of empathy and some forethought as to what will happen to them at a later date.

Check Out Some of my ‘Classic’ Poetry

WASHINGTON, DC - FEBRUARY 13: Poet and author...

Obama would endorse my poetry if he had read it.

I have been writing poetry for some time now and have built up more poetry online than I originally thought. I only really discovered this since I have been moving everything onto this new, sexy, website. So I wanted to share a few that may been missed in the move before I start to set up one of my first original series Scents Sand Censor Billy Tea which was in old fashioned book form.

Renewing Old Poetry and Getting Back to Basics

I have been busy working through the old website and copying over all of the single poems that don’t belong to a series. Needless to say it was pretty cool to read poems written a number of years ago and think back to those times and even disagree with some and find myself unchanged in relation to others. Despite any changes in myself as a person I don’t think I disagree with anything I have ever written, purely because it has lead me to more research, more understanding and a steadier flow towards what I want from a creative point of view.

New Year. New kjwriteleft.com

It has been a while since I have been able to work on my pride and joy properly and I believe in not rushing anything. This is why it is taking me some time to update all of my poetry, photography and other writing onto this new and improved kjwriteleft.com, however, you can still view the old kjwriteleft.com for now.

Bringing Poetry to an Online Audience

Black and White photo river with stones and treesI have been publishing poetry online for a number of years now so I thought it would be a great time to celebrate the new site by sharing some insights. While many of you love to write and read poetry there are some tips that will bring your poetry a bigger audience and even give you a chance to put your own book together. In fact, all of my poetry audience is online as a ‘poet on the page’ but there are also opportunities for performance poets as well.

‘Then I Passed’ Photography and Poetry

Title image for 'Then I Passed' photography and poetry seriesI have finally added my poetry and photography to the shiny new site that I built a little while ago. I started with my latest series from last year which went really well online and is still getting a lot of visits. While it is still available on the old site it looks more how I envisioned it when I wrote it.

I have been writing for some time about the visual aspects of poetry and the new site layout and design certainly lends itself to this. If some of the works seem familiar when you are looking through them it is because two of the poems (Alpha Omega and Dried) are used in the main site design.

I originally started kjwriteleft.com because I was unhappy with the amount of actually work I had as a writer and artist. It is great now to use all of my older works to develop this new site that people can still enjoy for free. I will be adding my favourite series Scents Sand Censor Billy Tea as soon as I can as well.

Working on the new site has certainly motivated me to get to work on a 2011 poetry series for everyone online. In particular I always want to thank twitter users that have played such a big role in making my poetry and photography do so well online. I hope this site is much more visually appealing to all of you and that you will continue to support the site in its new and improved format.

I have put plans on hold for an Art Auctions site mainly because of personal commitments but am very excited to get that moving ASAP. I hope it will be a gift of sorts to all the other online artists out there that are looking to display their work and even sell them on the Internet. So for now, please enjoy my current work on the site and feel free to share it around the net!

Art and Poetry Coming Soon – Promise!

I know I have been saying it for weeks and weeks but the site updates are coming and you will have all of the hottest content from the old site on here. It is quite a big move so I have been putting it off (well actually I have been too busy with work).

But, as you know, I love my poetry and my art and my new fiance as well so I hope to have everything transferred so I can begin a few poems to my love, my everything, Rachel. So I hope you will continue to enjoy the site and the blog etc as I will update everything soon!

Thanks for the patience, in the meantime visit the blog or the old site.

Sincerely,

KJ
