Absolute

by KJ Halliday

To never really question things

Would seem to some an awful sin

Accept, obey and bow your head

To questions I have left unsaid

Perhaps I will go back to church one day

To sit and think and silently pray

About the answers I took for granted

Cultural delusions that are slightly slanted

While a majority may pray for hopes and dreams

I always prayed beside the stream

Always answered straight away

Merely hoping today remains that way

To pray for absolution now

Would be the action of a coward

My sins were mine so do not forget

I never took the Devil’s bet

To win over all the hearts and minds

Better for me to build a sign

A banner, flag and parapet

To pay for my most holy debt
